Google Glass is nearing it’s completion and will very soon be available to to the 2,000 developers who had pre-ordered the device last year. Google will be shipping the Glass in two waves and thus, not all developers will get the device at once. Along with this announcement, Google has also officially released the specifications for the much-awaited Google Glass.
Google Glass will feature a 640 x 360
display, which according to Google is “equivalent of a 25 inch high
definition screen from eight feet away,” The device will come with a
5 megapixel camera, that’s capable of shooting videos in 720p.
The device gets 16GB of onboard storage, out of which only 12GB is accessible by the user and it will sync with Google’s cloud storage service. As for the battery life
on Google Glass is concerned, the company says the battery inside the
device is capable enough to last through a full day “of typical use.”
However, it adds that some of the features like Hangouts and video
recording consume more battery and thus, will get the it to drain
faster.
The battery on the Google Glass can be
charged via a micro-USB cable, and Google asks the users to only use
the USB cable that ships along with the Glass, in order to maximize the
life of the device.
On the connectivity front, Google Glass
supports 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi and gets Bluetooth connectivity as well.
Google says that Glass is compatible with any Bluetooth-capable device.
However, to use the MyGlass companion app, a device needs to be running
on Android 4.0 ICS or higher. The MyGlass app will enable GPS and SMS messaging support on the Glass.
The most interesting feature of the
Google Glass is it’s Bone Conduction Transducer, which will eliminate
the need to use a regular headphone along with the glass, as it will
transmit audio from the device to the the inner ear via the bones of the
wearer’s skull.
Finally, the frame of the Google Glass is designed to fit any face and will come with extra nose-pads in two sizes.
