How does the idea of turning your smartphone into a laptop sounds to you? Before you think we’ve gone insane or something, just spare a moment and hear what Livi Design has to say about their Casteop Project, a device that can do just that.
It is (Casetop Project) one of the most important technological devices since the iPhone.
While we will not agree with the claim till such a device actually goes in to mass production, but the idea sounds pretty good nonetheless.
The Casetop Project which is currently on Kickstarter, allows you to plug your smartphone into the device and turn it into a laptop. Once you plug in the smartphone, it will act as the processor, graphics engine and trackpad to the Casetop, which in turn gives you an 11.1-inch 720p LED backlit LCD display, a full size 78-key keyboard, 56 watt hour battery pack, 2 high fidelity speakers, HDMI port, MHL video input, power output, dual mode micro USB, 3.5mm audio output and one full size ‘always powered’ USB for charging other products.
Casetop can work across platforms like Android, iPhone, or Blackberry 10, basically any smartphone that has a video out option and Bluetooth. The company also hopes to upgrade the display from 720p to Full HD 1080p, if they manage to hit their stretch funding goal.
Since the project is on Kickstarter at present it need to meet it’s $300,000 funding goal before it actually goes on commercial sale, but if you’re interested in the idea, you can contribute a minimum of $250 for the project.
